Job Description
We have an opportunity in our Glastonbury, Connecticut office for a well-rounded, self-motivated staff level Environmental Scientist or Geologist. The successful candidate will support and complete technical tasks for site characterization and remediation projects. Duties will include Phase I and II environmental site assessments (site inspections, soil and groundwater characterization and sampling), data management, regulatory searches / reviews, and preparation of technical reports.
Course work and familiarity in one or more of the following fields is required: earth science, geology, hydrogeology, contaminant transport, and soil and groundwater field sampling methods. Interest and/or experience in field ecology and natural resource skills (wetland delineation methodologies) and/or soil science is a plus. This position will include field work, travel, and overnight stays.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Evaluating site conditions to identify potential environmental impacts.
- Implementing soil and groundwater environmental sampling programs.
- Logging soil cores to document geological conditions and environmental impacts.
- Collecting and analyzing site hydrogeologic data.
- Collecting soil and groundwater samples for chemical analysis.
- Overseeing subcontractors (e.g., surveyors, drillers, laboratory vendors, and remedial contractors).
- Compiling and evaluating environmental data.
- Performing regulatory records reviews.
- Preparing technical environmental site assessment reports.
- Assisting with wetland delineations and ecological assessments.
- Performing field work, including occasional overnight stays and travel.
Minimum Qualifications
- 0 to 2 years of related environmental site assessment work.
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental Science or Earth Sciences (Geology, Hydrogeology, Soil Scientist, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong writing skills, including attention to detail, and experience with technical, scientific report preparation.
- Positive, flexible, team-oriented applicant. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment in the office and when in the field must be comfortable in adverse weather and site conditions, including working in rugged terrain.
- Effective time management and follow-through, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks/projects and meet project deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with wetlands and wetland delineation methodologies and identifying common flora and soil types of the northeast is a plus.
